Higher Education

I partner with academic and institution-facing teams to translate complex work into clear, human stories that build trust. My approach is operational as much as creative: I clarify the goal, define the audience, protect tone and accessibility, and deliver work that remains consistent across stakeholders, timelines, and real-world constraints.

Below are selected higher-education and institution-adjacent projects, written as concise case notes to make my role, judgment, and process easy to understand.

Santa Barbara City College
Web 2.0 Media Incubator concept, design, and development
Developed a concept-to-structure framework translating an abstract idea into a usable program model, digital presence, and participation-ready foundation; created a portfolio site with built-in social media features matching media students with industry professionals for internships, mentorships, and career opportunities.

The Channels Newspaper interviewed Meg: According to Barbour, every SoMA student will have portfolio space on the Web site where they can upload their media. The site allows SoMA students to submit their work in 2-D and 3-D animation, film studies, screenwriting, graphic design, journalism, photography and web design categories.

Barbour said that employers can view students’ portfolios online, and post jobs by e-mailing the Incubator team. Newsletters will also go out to more than 961 employers on a regular basis.

“We got direct responses from employers who were contacting SoMA about students,” said Meg Barbour, the project leader of Media Incubator. Barbour is a City College graduate who is now working in the entertainment industry.

Media Incubator is an initiative of the South Coast Media Education Center and Multimedia & Entertainment Initiative Region 6. The site is offered as a prototype to City College and seven other colleges in the region.
